16" h x 21" w x 0.5" d
A 19th-century woodblock print by the celebrated Japanese master Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), depicting a serene winter landscape at Akabane Bridge in Shiba. The composition captures the quiet beauty of the Edo period with travelers crossing a snowy bridge near the Zojoji Temple pagoda, showcasing Hiroshige's mastery of atmosphere and his poetic approach to the changing seasons.
Circa 1844, this original period work was produced during the height of the artist's career when his landscape series were defining the golden age of Japanese printmaking.
Woodblock print using ink and color on paper, presented with the subtle color gradations known as bokashi that give the sky and water their characteristic depth. Rooted in the Ukiyo-e tradition, this piece belongs to the "pictures of the floating world" genre, reflecting the 19th-century Japanese appreciation for famous places and the fleeting beauty of the natural world.
