Charles X Candlesticks, a Pair
11" h x 4.25" w x 3.75" d
This pair of candlesticks showcases the ornamental richness characteristic of the period, with deeply carved acanthus leaf details at the base and upper shaft, fluted columns, and classical urn-form sockets topped with beaded rims. The tripod feet, carved with scrolling foliage and ending in claw forms, provide a sturdy foundation for these substantial bronze pieces.
Circa 1820s to 1830s, these candlesticks reflect the Charles X style, a French aesthetic that bridged Neoclassical restraint and Romantic ornamentation. The period saw a return to bolder carved decoration and architectural forms after the severe lines of the Empire era, making this work representative of luxury furnishings favored by wealthy households during the Restoration monarchy.
