11.5" h x 28.5" w x 18" d
A late 19th Century Chinese Export red leather trunk, featuring a vibrant lacquered surface decorated with traditional hand-painted floral and vining leaf motifs. Secured with decorative brass trim and nailheads, this piece was originally crafted for the Western trade market to transport textiles and treasures across the sea.
Circa 1880, this original period piece was made during the end of the Qing dynasty, a time when Chinese craftsmanship and maritime commerce flourished together.
Constructed from aromatic camphor wood and finished in red lacquered leather with original brass hardware. Rooted in the Chinese Export tradition, this trunk reflects the cultural exchange between East and West, blending robust utility with the ornate, storied artistry of 19th-century Chinese craft.
