Circa 1700 Small Early French Buffet Deux Corps
65.5" h x 34" w x 25.75" d
An exceptional early 18th century French buffet deux corps hand-carved from solid oak, featuring the large rectilinear volume and imposing presence characteristic of the Louis XIV period. The upper section is crowned with a "chapeau de gendarme" cornice above asymmetrical doors opening to a light blue interior, while the lower body contains symmetrically paneled doors and a practical pull-out tray.
Circa 1700, this period piece was crafted at a time when French furniture design favored grand scale and elegant architectural moldings.
Constructed from fine French oak with a warm, rich patina and joined with traditional wooden dowels. Rooted in the Baroque tradition, this two-part cabinet embodies the formal grandeur and sturdy elegance that defined French provincial craftsmanship at the turn of the 18th century.
