Made in Sweden late in the 19th or early in the 20th century. A very nice pair of Louis XVI style armchairs with well carved accents. Recently tightened. The painted surface is later. This design originates about 100 years earlier in the Gustavian period. These pieces are prized by collectors because they are provincial examples of French designs and are restrained and unfussy but still sophisticated. Swedish furniture is valued generally for practical reasons like its use in smaller spaces. Recently tightened and with later off white antiqued paint. Needs new upholstery.
