Italian Neoclassical Mecca Gilt Console with later Marble Top, Italy circa 1810
An early 19th Century Italian Neoclassical mecca gilt console with a later white and grey marble top, drilled for 2 lamp cords. Scrolling pierced rosettes flank a central medallion featuring a mecca gilt rosette on a white painted panel surrounded by beading. The top supported by 4 legs topped by mythological faces supported by twisted fluted columns that are widest in the middle. The legs rest on decorated square blocks that end in eccentric “paw” feet.
