George III Period Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase, England, circa 1790
Classic Chippendale designed George III period mahogany breakfront bookcase. On a plinth base with two sets of drawers flanking a large cabinet with shelf. The upper section featuring Chinese Chippendale astragals with nearly all of its original glazing. The pediment features a well figured mahogany frieze with stepped flaring moldings. An old label which may or may not be authentic says the cabinet belonged to the Earl of Northesk. The brasses appear to be original. The cabinet was well fitted with lighting about 40 years ago.
